| Professional Dance Examinations | |||||
The Glenlyn Stage School enters candidates for professional dance teaching examinations. On passing these examinations, the succesful candidate becomes a qualified dance instructor in that discipline and also becomes a member of the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing). The qualification gained is an NATD qualification, and this is a recognised qualification with the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET). There are three levels of qualification; Associateship, Licentiate and Fellowship. Candidates must first take their Associate teaching qualification before moving on to the Licentiate and finally the Fellowship qualifications. Each seperate discipline (Ballet, Tap, Modern) must be taken seperately, and consequetly a qualified Ballet and Tap instructor will in fact have two seperate qualifications. Currently the Glenlyn Stage School only offers teaching qualifications in Ballet, Stage Branch Tap and Modern. The Associate qualification course takes two years of part time study to complete. During this time, the student will attend classes with their class teacher and also take classes with the Principal, Miss Diana Washbourne. There is also a lot of idependent study required for this qualification. It is also required that students working towards their teaching qualifications undertake 'student teaching'. The student will work under the supervision of a member of the teaching staff, teaching and helping within already established classes. The teaching will be relevant to the content of the qualification that they are taking. Before being entered for the Associate examination, candidates must have passed the Intermediate examination of that discipline. If this has not already been passed, it can be included within the two year course, with the Intermediate examination being taken at the end of the first year, and the Associate at the end of the second.
